Figueras or Figueres is a city in northern Catalonia in Spain.
It is the capital of the comarca of Alt Empordà in the province of Girona.
It is located 24 km south of Perthus Pass, on the rail and road axis that connects Barcelona to France.
Its economy is based on tourism and agriculture, and takes advantage of its geographical location near the Costa Brava, the Franco-Spanish border as well as Girona and Barcelona.
The city is home to the Dalí Theater-Museum and the largest fortress in Europe, Sant Ferran Castle.
The fortified church of Vilatenim is also remarkable.
The Museum of Empordà presents the heritage of the Empordà.
Figueres is home to the Toy Museum of Catalonia, which enjoys the status of a national museum.
